A DAD of four who pestered his ex partner and slashed the tyres of her new boyfriend's car has been given a three months suspended jail term.

Marc Shum, 26, of Merchant Mead, Quedgeley, was also ordered by a judge to undergo 20 days of rehab activity and a 30 day probation programme addressed at building better relationships.

Judge Jamie Tabor QC further ordered him to pay £200 compensation for the damaged tyres at Gloucester crown court yesterday.

At an earlier hearing at Gloucester crown court Shum had admitted breaching a non molestation order imposed on August 1 last year by intimidating, harassing or pestering Rochelle Mitchell.

He also admitted damaging the tyres of new partner David Gillespie's car when it was parked outside her home in Longhorn Avenue, Gloucester.

At the earlier hearing Judge Tabor deferred sentence on Shum to see if he could behave properly, not offend and comply with the terms of an existing probation order.

When Shum returned yesterday the judge was concerned about an incident in August when Ms Mitchell complained about him following a meeting in St Oswald's Park to hand over children.

But the prosecution said he was not arrested or charged with any offence and better arrangements were now in place for the exchange of children between himself and his former partner.

However, probation officer Jo Hall told the court he had concerns about Shum because he has missed appointments with his supervisor, citing the fact that he had his children with him and did not want them to have to accompany him there.

She said she had got the impression from Shum that he felt further probation was pointless because he had done all the rehabilitative work he needed to do.

His attitude towards women needed to be addressed and he should go on a building better relationships programme, she said.

Tim Hills, defending, said that Shum now had an excellent relationship with his supervisor and an arrangement had been made for him keep in touch by phone when he was looking after the children.

Judge Tabor told Shum: "You are a hot headed young man who doesn't listen. I want to ensure as far as I am able that you receive some further education as far as your attitude towards women is concerned.

"I am going to order you to attend a particular course but if you don't do it you will go to prison."
