STROUD could have its very own outdoor ice rink in the town centre this Christmas.

Organisers of the annual Goodwill evening are currently looking at the possibility of creating a small rink on the Subscription Rooms forecourt.

The idea comes after the space was turned into a sandy beach during the Fringe Festival 2016.

Event planner Gerb Gerbrands said if the dream came true, he hoped the ice rink could bring the town alive during the festive season.

“We are currently looking into how much it will cost, what size it would be and if we could get any sponsors to come forward,” he said.

“At the moment there aren’t any details or any real information to report. It’s something of an outline plan, but a number of the organisers are keen to make it happen.”

This year’s Stroud Goodwill evening is set to take place on Friday December 2 and will open with the switching on of the Christmas lights after Father Christmas’ countdown.

There will be Christmas markets in the Cornhill Square, the Subscription Rooms and the Shambles.

The popular Charities fayre in the Merrywalks precinct will also return with the Pauline Quirk Academy holding a join in singing and dancing workshop.

Any local or national charities who would like a free table at the Fayre should email markets@fresh-n-local.co.uk

The annual highlight of the evening is the wonderful lantern procession around the town which this year will have the theme of ‘Woodland Animals’.

There will be plenty of opportunities in the weeks approaching Goodwill to make lanterns for the procession, either at one of the local primary schools taking part or at the making shop which will be open in the week prior.

There are already some fabulous entertainments booked for around the town and organisers are asking for local choirs, buskers and street entertainers to get in touch if they would like to add their sparkle to the evening.

Organisers can be reached via the above email address or through the Stroud Goodwill evening Facebook page or by phoning 01453 758060.
