STROUD Ambitions, one of the county’s largest careers events, is being held at Stratford Park on Wednesday 9 November.

The early evening event runs from 4.30pm to 7.30pm and offers a unique opportunity for adults and young people to talk to experts and employers from a wide range of businesses and organisations.

Councillor Steve Lydon, leader of Stroud District Council, said: “Whether you want to learn what employability skills are required in future careers, find a new job, re-train, or take your first step on the career ladder there is something for you at this event.

“Universities, colleges and representatives from local school sixth firms will be there too if you’re thinking of furthering your education.

“Some of the companies taking part will also be looking to fill current job vacancies and offering apprenticeships.”

There will be up to 70 stalls with experts from 30 employment sectors providing hands-on advice about their line of work and training requirements.

Independent careers advisers, apprenticeship providers, community groups and Job Centre Plus will also be on hand along with local universities, colleges and sixth forms.

The event is free to attend and no booking is required.

Stroud News and Journal:

A large breadth of careers will be represented from construction - where there is a shortage of skilled staff - through to sport and leisure, care work, catering and hairdressing.

Experts will also be on hand to talk about working in the emergency services, medicine, the law and media.

Manufacturing and engineering will also be heavily represented, including large local employers including Renishaw.

The event has been organised by Stroud District Council in partnership with South Gloucestershire and Stroud College.

Claire Maddox, commercial director of Eurolink Connect, said: "We're really looking forward to being involved in the event again this year, supporting the business and entrepreneur section.

“We are going to be working with visitors to understand the importance and value of good communication to businesses, and hopefully inspiring them to join one of the fastest paced, most innovative industries the UK has to offer.

“We love what the Stroud Ambitions event is all about - supporting the next generation is so important, as is working with the local community."

Di Haines from Jobcentre Plus added: “The Stroud Ambitions event provides a valuable opportunity for students and their parents to access lots of advice about careers and further education, from many organisations, education providers and employers.

“Our team from Jobcentre Plus enjoy being part of this event, providing information about a wide range of careers and employers in Gloucestershire."
