FOUR of Stroud’s district’s top restaurants have been honoured by being recommended in the Michelin Guide for 2017.

The Wild Garlic Restaurant in Nailsworth claimed a top spot for an incredible ninth year in a row under the stewardship of Chef Patron Matthew Beardshall.

The Bisley House Bar & Restaurant in Stroud claimed the coveted place for a third successive year and cemented its place as one of the Five Valleys’ best restaurants.

On the other side of the valley The Bell at Selsley also joined the list in its first year after reopening.

Last but certainly not least is The Painswick, the new luxury restaurant homed the recently renovated Painswick Hotel.

Matthew Beardshall, owner and head chef at Wild Garlic, said: “The Michelin Guide is probably the most well respected in the foodie world, so it’s great to get their recommendation once again.

“This is the ninth year in a row we’ve been included – every year since we’ve been open.

“We want to keep innovating and stay right on top of our game to ensure we provide the best service for our customers.

“Well done to all the staff here for their continued hard work.”

Another successful landlord is Rorie Scott of the Bisley House in Stroud. As self-taught head chef of the popular restaurant, he must take the plaudits for its continued success.

“We’re very honoured to be included in the Michelin Guide 2017,” he said.

“It’s a great recognition and I’m really pleased for all the staff up here. They all work so hard to make the Bisley House a success.

“We are the only place in town that has been included three years in a row and we have been included every year since my wife Ania and I took over.”

Sarah Watts, owner of The Bell said: “We’re delighted to get this recognition – especially as we only opened last year.

“It’s a great accolade for the chef and for the team here.”

The Painswick’s Calcot-owned sister in Tetbury – The Gumstool Inn – also made the cut this year.

Also included in the area were The Bell in Sapperton, The Dining Room in Malemsbury and Thornbury Castle.
