HUNDREDS turned out to see a spectacular fireworks display light up Stroud's skies.

Crowds were not put off by the wet weather on Monday evening as people of all ages gathered to watch the display at Marling School playing fields off Cainscross Road.

Formerly known as the Ebley Firework Display, the event was jointly organized by the Rotary clubs of Stroud, Nailsworth and Stonehouse.

Star Fireworks provided the entertainment - choreographing the display to hit songs including New York, New York.

John Jeynes, spokesman for organisers Rotary Five Fireworks, said: "We have experienced another great night, where families came together and enjoyed a family friendly event in safety and entertained with the best firework display anywhere in the district.

"We are really fortunate to enjoy a special relationship with Star Fireworks, the British Firework Champions of Champions.

"We will distribute all our profits to our nominated local charities and good causes within the next month.

"Finally, special thanks to all our loyal supporters who continue to make this a must go to event in the Five Valleys calendar.”

Children enjoyed free face painting and a wide variety of creative arts, whilst others enjoyed all the fun of the fair with a range of rides on offer.

Money raised will go to charities and good causes in the area.

Since it was launched more than 50 years ago, the event has raised nearly £250,000 in aid of charity.
