FOUR people were arrested following a tragic fatal collision in Stroud on Thursday afternoon.

An 18-year-old man from Stonehouse, a 36-year-old man from Stonehouse, a 37-year-old woman from Stonehouse and an 18-year-old man from Gloucester were all arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The woman has been released without charge.

The three men arrested remain in custody but have not yet been charged.

It follows a collision on Bisley Road on Thursday in which an elderly man died.

The arrests were made after police searched the area with a helicopter and a dog unit.

Witnesses reported seeing a police car chase through the narrow streets at the time. Police have not confirmed this yet.

The incident happened at 2.35pm today when a red Saab 900 XS collided with an elderly man – believed to be a cyclist.

Officers performed CPR immediately and an air ambulance attended but the man couldn't be saved and died at the scene.

A red Saab was removed overnight. Witnesses reported seeing a mangled bicycle trapped under the car.

The air ambulance landed at Severn View Primary Academy.

An eyewitness said: “I heard the crash and went to look out the window. There was loads of commotion and sirens.

"There is still blood on the street now. It’s so sad.”

Lesley Williams, Labour country councillor for Stonehouse, said: “Dreadful and shocking. Thoughts are with the family of the man who was killed.”
