FIREFIGHTERS have been attending a car fire near the Cainscross roundabout this morning.

A car went up in flames near the traffic lights on Westward Road at around 8.50am, causing delays.

Ashley Smith, who was on a bus behind the car which was on fire, said: "The car went up in flames at the junction.

"We heard the bus driver making a call to decide whether to go past. The fire went down and then it went up in again, even as we were going past it was on fire."

Firefighters have been at the scene dealing with the fire.

A spokesman for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service said:

"We were called at 08:56 to car on fire at Cainscross Roundabout.

"One appliance from Stroud attended. Crews used one hose reel and two breathing apparatus to deal with the fire.

"The car was severely damaged, and is not being treated as suspicious."
