SNOW sprinkled over the heads of shoppers as Stroud Goodwill Evening 2016 brought the town alive with a flurry of festive cheer.

The event on Friday evening drew hundreds of eager visitors keen to explore the town’s annual Christmas extravaganza.

This year’s Goodwill had a busy schedule of entertainment with the unique theme of unique theme of Woodland Animals.

The heart of Stroud was transformed into a winter wonderland as cannons sprinkled snow from the Subscription Rooms over the heads of delighted children.

Blue lights twinkled above as shoppers wound their way through a dazzling display of colourful stalls selling gifts, crafts and perfect stocking fillers.

The smell of mulled wine and mince pies and the buzz of excited chatter wafted through the busy streets and stalls sold a delicious array of hot food.

After festivities began with the official Christmas lights switch on, crowds lined the High Street to watch the popular candle-lit lantern procession led by Stroud Red Band.

This year saw dozens of intricately designed wicker and paper lanterns lit the way, with woodland creatures such as colourful owls, stags and foxes.

The town centre was dotted with musical performance, with standout shows coming from Hattie Briggs, The Bob Porter Project, Stroud Rock Choir and Jazz Friday.

Stroud Light Music Choir and Methodist Church Band also added to the festive spirit as visitors purveyed Christmas markets at Cornhill and the Shambles.

The popular annual Christmas Tree festival in St Laurence Church and the spinning lights of the fairground in Fawkes Place also drew large crowds.

Even Elvis made a special appearance at the Emmaus charity shop in London Road.

This year money raised from the event will be donated to Stroud charities OPENhosue and The Door.
