FAMILIES have been enjoying a cruise along the canals of Stroud with Santa.

Father Christmas has been on board the Cotswold Canals Trust boat Perseverance at the weekend with sacks of gifts for all young passengers.

Despite the cold weather, families jumped on board for a ride along the restored stretch of canal at the weekend.

Cotswold Canals Trust Western Boats manager Rob Burgon said: “This was a great effort from Santa and his crew who braved the freezing conditions over the weekend.

“Perseverance had to push through ice at the start of each day and it wasn't much warmer on the bank side.

“Many thanks to those who braved the cold to meet Santa on his first visit by boat to Ebley Wharf on the Stroudwater Navigation.”

More of the 20-minute festive cruises are being held on Saturday, 10 and 17 and Sunday, December 11 and 18, with the first trips at 10am and the last at 3.30pm.

Boarding passes can be bought from Munch Cafe in Ebley Wharf.

Tickets £5, including a present for children.

No need to pre-book. Free parking available at the Ebley Mill visitors' car park.
