ROWER Pete Reed has announced plans to go for a fourth Olympic gold.

Reed, a lieutenant in the Royal Navy, is targeting the Tokyo Games in 2020 to add to his triumphs in Rio, Beijing and London.

"I felt I had more to give, more to do," he told BBC Sport.

"It felt natural."

The Nailsworth rower, 35, returned to the navy after his latest triumph in Rio and was awarded an OBE in the 2017 New Year Honours for his services to rowing.

Now he is said to be back in training and making preparations for his return to rowing.

He is one of the most decorated GB rowers, with three Olympic golds and five golds and three silvers at the World Championships.

If he wins a fourth Olympic gold he would join an elite list of Olympians such as Sir Ben Ainslie, Sir Mo Farah and Sir Matthew Pinsent.

Speaking to the SNJ after his triumph in Rio, Reed said he felt in top shape and that he was considering going for a fourth gold.

"Of course I have thought about going for a fourth Olympic gold but I need some time to think about it first," he said.

"I love what I do and I see it as an honour.

"I want to spend some time with the Royal Navy first who have been so supportive and then I will need to draw up a list of the pros and cons of going for a fourth gold.

"It is a huge commitment and very intense so I need some time to think about it first."
