THIRTY years after the death of former Prime Minister Harold Macmillan, this photo shows the day when the Earl of Stockton visited Stroud on a pre-election tour.
Around 1,000 gathered to hear 'Supermac' speak from the balcony of the Sub Rooms ahead of the 1959 General Election.
Mr Macmillan, who became Prime Minister after Anthony Eden's resignation in 1957, went on to lead the Conservatives to victory in the 1959 election.
