PLANS for 175 houses and a roundabout in Hardwicke have been submitted to Stroud District Council.

The scheme off Bath Road from developers Redrow Homes is just one in a series of developments south of Gloucester.

This latest batch of housing plans adds to the nearby 1,750 scheme at Hunts Grove, approved in 2008 which includes a primary school, supermarket, pub and church, and the 175-home plan at Sellars Farm.

Residents fear that when this trio of builds is finalised they will find themselves struggling for green spaces.

Redrow Homes note in their application that “the site has potential to be the first phase in a larger development.”

The plans, designed by Thrive Architects will include affordable housing and highway improvements in the form of a large roundabout on Bristol Road to serve as access for the development.

Their aim is to “create a high quality family orientated development set within green space, retaining the site’s existing landscape network.”

The site sits close to Hardwicke Parochial Primary School, Hardwicke village green and the Royal British Legion.

A public right of way runs diagonally across the site, linking Bristol Road with Sticky Lane, which is used to access the primary school and village hall.

The specifics of the housing scheme will come into play further down the line, with Redrow merely seeking outline planning permission for access and scale.
