COMMUNITY members are calling for greater safety measures to be implemented along one of the busiest main roads through Stroud.

The group gathered a petition with almost 200 signatures calling for a Visual Activated Sign on Stratford Road and presented it to Stroud Town Council on Monday, January 30.

Residents, led by Labour county council candidate for Stroud Central, Debbie Hicks, went door to door to gather support for the idea and to suggest ideas for the best location.

The would-be councillor has also started community meetings for isolated residents in the area, which will begin on Thursday March 9 from 7pm till 8.30pm in the conference room at Stroud College.

Local town and district councillors will be invited as well as officers and representatives from Stroud District Council and the area’s PCSO, Gary Lynch.

Flyers for the meetings will be put through letter boxes in Stratford Road, Graces Fields, Jack Russell Close, Central Road and Downfield Road.
