A PILATES teacher and mother from North Woodchester is holding a charity event as part of a worldwide effort to support women and children victims of sexual trafficking.

Jo Daley, 43, will be holding a Pilates class followed by a yoga course run and by a bring & buy cake sale at the Arkell Community Centre in Nailsworth on Sunday, March 5.

Her fundraising efforts are part of a massive international Yoga Stops Traffick event which is organised in 40 different countries by the charity Odanadi.

“They are a really incredible charity and I’m so excited to support them,” said Jo, who has taught Body Control Pilates for eight years and runs a course at Pilates Works in South Woodchester.

“Odanadi support women and children victims of sexual trafficking and have done such important work in India.

“Forty countries take part on this day and their work is incredible to prevent and rehabilitate victims of human trafficking.

“At the orphanages they offer the children yoga, art therapy and acupuncture to help and they offer them safe housing and they have changed the law as well as rescuing children from brothels - it's incredible the progress they have made with the system and protecting the children.

“My stepbrother has been involved with the charity from the beginning and they have achieved so much and changed the law and do fantastic work with the children rehabilitating and rescuing them.

“All donations and proceeds go to the charity. I’m hoping to raise around £500 this year.

“We’ll be holding the event on the same day as everyone else around the world so it’ll really feel like we’re part of a huge charity effort.”

The event runs from 10.30am until 1pm, with the yoga class run by Charlotte Lucking.
