RESIDENTS of Bisley Old Road are furious at motorists ignoring the strict 20mph speed limit.

Three cars were written off last week by someone driving at speeds though to be in excess of 50mph.

Dave Smith who lives on Bisley Old Road believes that both police and the council are failing in their duty to enforce the speed restrictions.

He said: “Only a few weeks ago I was nearly hit by a car whilst crossing the Bisley Old Road around mid-day.

“I estimate the car was travelling at around 70mph, unfortunately these speeds are not uncommon.

“Every weekend I see dozens of cars being driven at 60, 70 plus mph up and down the Bisley Old Road racetrack.

“We need pro-active policing and traffic calming measures which are not being delivered.

Martyn Midgeley, area highways manager at Gloucestershire County Council, said:

“Any accident on our county’s roads is one too many. We will be using information from the police investigation and working with the Road Safety Partnership to decide what, if any, safety measures are required.”

In response to the claims that they are not doing enough a spokesman for the police said:

“We understand the concerns raised and our local policing team has been made aware so that they can look to address any community concerns. We encourage the community to make us aware of any concerns they have on any local issues.

Any concerns regarding road safety can be registered by emailing police on 101@gloucestershire.police.uk.
