A NAILSWORTH Town Council stalwart has resigned from his post after 14 years.
Norman Kay has served as a town councillor since 2003 and was mayor of Nailsworth from 2007 to 2010.
He remains chairman of Stroud District Council and also leaves an empty slot on the town council.
Mayor of Nailsworth Jonathan Duckworth said “I would like to thank Norman for all his hard work on council.
“He has worked hard on significant projects including the Arkell Centre.”
A ‘casual vacancy’ will be advertised for 14 days during which time Nailsworth electors can send a petition of at least ten signatures to the returning officer of Stroud District Council calling for an election.
The deadline for a petition is Friday, March 17, if an election is called for it will take place alongside the county council elections, with polling on Thursday, May 4.
Mayor Duckworth said: “I really hope that people consider standing for council, I have always said that elections are the bedrock of democracy and that council should encourage them, allowing the electors to choose who represents them.”
Any Nailsworth elector who is interested in becoming a town councillor can speak to the town clerk on 01453 833 592, email clerk@nailsworthtowncouncil.gov.uk or any of the current councillors.
