NAILSWORTH celebrated a quarter of a century’s work from its well-known Town Crier last Saturday.

The community gathered at Mortimer Gardens to mark the 25 years of service from former town mayor, Tony Evans.

Mr Evans has been ‘Crying’ since 1993, both at town events, and representing Nailsworth across the world.

He has taken part in competitions around the globe and in 2013 Tony organised a competition here in Nailsworth for Town Criers cross the UK.

Town Criers are asked to appear at local civic events, charity functions and major national events too.

Many town criers also help local businesses and other organisations to promote special events and Tony is supportive of activities in Nailsworth.

Tony announced the monthly market as usual, before being presented with an award by Nailsworth Mayor, Jonathan Duckworth.
