CHALFORD are the non-league answer to Arsenal’s Invincibles.
Arsene Wenger’s side swept all before them and gained immortality by going the entire 2003/04 Premier League season unbeaten, and now Lee Pritchard’s Gloucestershire Northern Senior League minnows are close to replicating this record, after winning 19 of their 24 matches, drawing five.
And with six games of the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Two season to go the Chalford Invincibles boast a 10-point lead with a game in hand over second-placed Longlevens Reserves.
They maintained their impressive surge to the title on Saturday, but were almost derailed by third-placed Stroud Harriers and had a last gasp 94th-minute Jonny Davis strike to salvage a point after Mark Uppington’s opener gave Leighton Collins’ side the lead.
Pritchard said: “We’re in a fortunate position where we can enjoy every game, given our points tally and position in the league.
“Our resilience to pick up points in backs-to-the-wall situations has been the difference this season. It was a deserved point in our chase to lift the trophy.”
