I NOTE your recent article headed “Conservatives against mini-roundabout idea”, which relates to a road safety idea following a serious accident at the B4058 junction with the A46 in Nailsworth. I think it is very sad if the Conservatives are trying to make political capital by criticising a suggestion for road safety improvements by Steve Robinson, a Labour councillor, without seemingly making useful suggestions themselves.
Road safety is not political. It is a community matter, where everyone should have the opportunity to contribute ideas for a solution that works for everyone.
As a regular user of the junction in question, I was waiting for the inevitable accident which when it came was dramatic, but fortunately no-one was killed – in this instance they were very lucky.
So I would ask the Tories to work with others to come up with the best solution to both reduce traffic speed and provide warning for this concealed junction rather than petty political point scoring.
This is a highways matter, controlled by Gloucestershire County Council and privatised to a contractor by the ruling Tories.
So I would suggest to Nailsworth people that they remember this, plus the outrageous potholes coming into Nailsworth from Stroud, when they go to the polling stations in May to elect a County Councillor.
You know what to do!
