LONGNEY Primary Academy celebrated its 2016 Key Stage 2 reading results with a visit from MP Neil Carmichael.

Mr Carmichael joined pupils for their Celebration Worship where he congratulated them on the letter they had received from schools minister Nick Gibb, stating that their results for reading were in the top one per cent of schools across the country.

Head teacher Penny Howard said: “Reading is very important to us as without reading, children cannot access other areas of the curriculum.

“We are also very keen our children read for pleasure and you will see pupils reading during their breaks across the day.

“Currently we are doing Drop Everything And Read at all sorts of times during the day and our pupils are very excited about this.

“We are also very grateful to our Friend of Longney School Association who have recently paid to refurbish our library.”
