A NEW agency has been confirmed to pick up elderly home care services in Stroud district after current provider Cleeve Link went into liquidation.

Human Support Group has been confirmed as the provider in Gloucester and Stroud and is due to take over the service soon.

It comes after the shock announcement from Cleeve Link last week that it had begun insolvency proceedings, putting up to 500 vulnerable people in Gloucestershire at risk.

The agency provided domestic care and support for older people that allows them to retain their independence at home, such as bathing, laundry, shopping, medication and transport.

Since the announcement Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) have been working to ensure that care continues unaffected for all those using the service.

The authority said that staff who provide care and have stayed on in their roles will all be transferred to new providers.

GCC has also confirmed it has compensated staff who had not been paid their wages by the failing Cheltenham-based care group.

It followed claims from members of staff at Cleve Link that around 225 carers, more than half of its total staff, had not been paid for their past month of work.

GCC said it has also made efforts to ensure that all new providers will be able to pay all staff going forward.

Cllr Dorcas Binns, cabinet member for older people, said: “I would like to thank all the care staff who have worked through this difficult time and the people who receive care for their patience.

“We were only made aware of Cleeve Link’s intentions at extremely short notice and had no indication that the new owner planned to liquidate the company.

“These new providers will make sure care continues for those most in need.”

The Care Quality Commission rated Cleeve Link as a 'Good' service during its last inspection in March 2015.

The report said at the time Cleeve Link were providing care for more than 500 people.

The hotline will continue to operate whilst care providers take over.
