EIGHT new arrivals are causing quite a stir at Wycliffe Nursery.
The chicks arrived as eggs and the 50 children at the Stonehouse nursery witnessed their hatching.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to experience that magic of watching the chicks emerge from their shells,” said Caroline Marsh, Nursery Manager.
The Upper Nursery children built a foam brick enclosure for the chicks and were then tasked with making sure they could not escape.
The Lower Nursery collected moss and twigs to make a very large nest, which the children were able to sit in and role play being chicks.
Unfortunately, the special visitors can only stay for a couple of weeks, then they will be off to their new homes - though one will definitely be adopted by a nursery staff member who keeps hens.
“The children have been so excited about the chicks’ arrival and it is all they are talking about - and will likely continue to talk about them long after we say goodbye to chicks,” said Caroline.
