HEALTHCARE providers in South Gloucestershire are celebrating the results of a recent inspection, which were released today.

Sirona Care and Health, who provide community health and adult social care across the county have been graded overall as “good”, after being assessed by inspectors from the Care Quality Commission in October and November last year.

The level of care in the services provided to the likes of Thornbury Hospital and Yate West Gate Centre, were labelled “outstanding” in the report, which said that “staff were often described as going the extra mile and the care people received exceeded their expectations.”

Other positive points from the report showed that the effectiveness, responsiveness and leadership of their services were all considered to be of a “good” standard.

Janet Rowse, Sirona’s chief executive, said that she was “immensely proud” of the staff who ensure care was given “in the same way we would for our own loved ones.”

“This is official recognition of the outstanding care they provide and we are all delighted.”

CQC South West hospital inspection manager Amanda Eddington praised Sirona’s “Taking it personally” ethos, and that it was demonstrated by all levels of the organisation.

She added that end of life care was also considered to be “outstanding” and that “there was holistic and person centred support completely embedded within the department with patients and family fully involved and informed about all aspects of treatment and care.”

The report however suggested the safety of services required improvement, with compliance with mandatory training being variable between sites and audits of care records not extending to paper copies.

Ms Rowse said that the inspection came at a “time of great change” for Sirona, but that staff demonstrated they “always put the individual at the centre of everything they do.

She added that feedback was actively encouraged and while the positive report was welcomed they would not be complacent and would address the recommendations made to them.

“The overall rating of good which we have received now allows us to build even further and many of the areas highlighted in the report show us what we need to do to get from good to outstanding which is our ultimate aim.”
