FIRE crews battled to cut a seriously injured female motorist free from her car after it left the road and crashed on the M5 near Stroud.

The woman’s vehicle crashed on the northbound carriageway close to Michaelwood services at around 2.45pm.

A spokesperson from South West Ambulance Service said suffered a head injury and leg injury.

One fire truck from Stroud and another from Wotton are at the scene now. A spokesman said an “extrication” was in progress.

One lane of the northbound carriageway between junction 14 and junction 13 was closed as traffic built up.

Delays are likely while police and ambulance attend the scene and carry out an investigation.

Three rapid response cars and an ambulance attended.

Anyone who witnessed the incident but hasn't spoken to officers should call 101 and quote incident 289 of 29 March.

All lanes have since been reopened but there are still delays in the area.
