YO HO ho it’s April Fool’s day this Saturday although I don’t think we’ll be repeating the same jolly japes that were imposed on the Stallholders back in 2006 when for a laugh we stirred up the market and moved the stallholders into different places around the market, without giving them any warning.

With the clocks going forward it is time to think about the garden. We will have plant specialists every week this month with Down to Earth, with mostly edibles for the garden, and the returning Lavender Garden and Pat’s Plants in the square in attendance this Saturday. During the month ahead we will have Ascott Gardens, Tortworth Nursery, Malcolm Allison Nursery and Herbs for Healing in addition to the above so there will be plenty of variety. Growers are saying that the early spring has been warm and they are returning earlier than expected. Julian Harvard cut flowers will also have the first bunches of tulips of the year this Saturday which is again a couple of weeks ahead of schedule.

On the veg front everything is brassica-tastic with great big blooming purple sprouting and cauliflowers in abundance, apparently there is a national glut! There are lots of greens such as chard and spinach too plus leeks, celeriac, store carrots, potatoes and rhubarb for afters.

Elsewhere this week Nimpy Clothing is doing some spring dates for the first time this year with her great range of upcycled ladies and children’s wear. Bow in the Cloud vineyard have completed their pruning and are now back at the market every week with Cotswold Rose, Cloud Nine White and a super bubbly. Also returning are Horton’s Bees and Trees, Katie Crunch fudge, The Garlic Farm and Tania Harvey silver.
