STROUD’S only remaining nightclub The Warehouse is due to re-open this weekend after a high-profile review of its licence by Stroud District Council.

The London Road club will open its doors to clubbers again on Saturday April 8 – just over two months after it closed.

The licence for alcohol and music had been temporarily suspended an application by police, after the tragic death of 24-year-old Stroud soldier Jack Mitchell on February 5.

Last month councillors agreed a raft of minor changes to how the venue operates in a bid to improve safety.

These include changes to the number of bouncers on duty and the quality of CCTV in operation at the venue.

After 10pm, and 30 minutes after the club shuts at 3.30am, there must now be at least four “door supervisors” on hand to manage crowds, an increase from two.

There have been no changes to the last entry and re-entry which remains at 2.30am.

Bouncers at the front doors must also now wear Hi Vis jackets and if they are provided with body cameras, all the footage shall be recorded and available for police.

Meanwhile, all entry and exit points will have to install better cameras and lighting to make sure people can be seen clearly.

The council committee also took action to try and reduce the amount of impact on the town when people leave the club at the end of the night.

Music must now be turned down 10 minutes before closing time and the PA system will help door supervisors clear the club.

New “prominent” signs outside the building will ask people leave “quickly, quietly and with regard to the surrounding neighbours”.

While some in the Stroud community had called for the club to be shut down, the majority praised the action of staff on the night and said the venue should be reopened.

After the official reopening, the club – which normally opens only on a Saturday – will also have another night on Friday, April 14, where only the top floor will be open.

Then on Saturday April 15 the club will be open again as normal.

Stroud’s other club Twisted Fix shut its doors after a huge closing party on Saturday April 1.
