A BUILDING which is home to popular Stroud restaurant Ciao Eatalia has been put up for sale for more than £1 million.

‘For sale’ signs appeared on the ristorante, pizzeria and former nightclub in Merrywalks last week.

The freehold is on the market for £1.3million – and the decision on whether the Italian restaurant stays will be down to the new owner.

If they choose to redevelop the site the pizzeria could be closed down for good.

The business shut its doors suddenly in December 2016 after management that had recently taken over left.

Regular customers were disappointed when the large restaurant, which has been open since 2013, ceased trading and remained closed in 2017.

Plans had been in the pipeline to change the name to La Dolce Vita and give it a new lease of life, but these proposals are hold on for the meantime.

Above the restaurant the building has eight self-contained one bedroom apartments. The lease for the restaurant is £52,000.

Estate Agents, Bristol-based Maggs and Allen, said the client was currently in negotiation with a proposed tenant.

“A substantial freehold investment comprising eight well-presented apartments with an additional two storey restaurant of circa 4,000sqft,” it said.

“Potential gross annual income of approximately £99,280. Situated on the A46, next door to 'McDonalds' and within easy access of Stroud town centre. Early enquiries recommended."
