A TWELVE day overnight resurfacing project in Nailsworth is due to start this evening, Thursday, April 6.

Work on the A46 Stroud Road and Bath Road will go ahead from 7pm tonight and last until 7am.

This schedule will continue nightly until Tuesday April 18 – excluding weekends.

Gloucestershire County Council said work will be completed as swiftly as possible.

It said the 7-7 closures have been put in place to keep traffic running smoothly for local businesses, schools, road users and residents in the daytime.

However, pubs and restaurants in the town have expressed concern their business will be seriously affected.

During working hours the A46 will be closed from near the Shell petrol station right through the town and up the hill to the junction with Tetbury Lane.

Stroud News and Journal:

During the project, asphalt thirteen times the weight of the space shuttle - 1000 tonnes – will be laid by the council’s highways contractor AMEY.

This will be over an area 8000 metres square: one-and-a-half times as big as a football field.

A signposted alternative route will be in place during the closure.

For most people driving from Stroud, the best route will be over Minchinhampton Common and Down the W to Morrsions.

Cllr Dorcas Binns, county councillor for Nailsworth added: “This work will be a great improvement and reduce the need for roadworks in the future.

“I am delighted that Nailsworth residents will benefit from the county’ council’s highway investment this year.”
