WITH the London Marathon taking place on Sunday, April 23 the SNJ take a look back at Stroud runners who tackled the 26 mile challenge in 2007.

Stroud sportsman Matt Pearce practiced what he preached when he tackled the gruelling run.

Back in 2007 Matt worked as a healthy lifestyles development officer for Stroud District Council.

He was running to raise money for his chosen charity, the Blood Pressure Association – an organisation very close to his heart as he ran a cardiac rehabilitation group.

Matt said: “I wanted to run in aid of the Blood Pressure Association because I am very much aware of the increasing incidence of high blood pressure.

“In my line of work I am constantly meeting people who suffer from this condition and know the implications it can have on people’s health.”

Matt managed to run the Marathon in a time of 4 hours and 19 minutes raising £585 for charity.

Thomas Keble School art teacher Ben Clarke also got his running shoes out for the marathon.

Ben had raised £1800 for Barnardo’s in 2006 and was hoping for similarly numbers in 2007 this time for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
