A REGULAR supporter of Randwick Scouts has passed away aged 77.

George Rodney William Lodge who was fondly known as Bingo George lost his battle with cancer at around 10.45pm on Thursday April 6 in Cheltenham General Hospital.

George received his nickname having run a weekly Bingo event at Randwick Scout hut for over 20 years, raising an excess of £10,000.

He has also been an active participator in other community events including the Randwick Wap Festival which dates back to the 17th century and the Rambling Association.

George moved to Stroud as early as the 1940’s when his parents were evacuated during World War Two.

Since then George has been a major part of the community and was lucky enough to have three children; Tim Lodge, 50, Simon Lodge 48 and Nicola Lodge, 43.

Tim who lives in Cainscross said his father did a great deal for a number of organisations including the Paganhill Maypole committee and of course the Randwick Scouts.

Tim said: “Dad brought a lot of pleasure to the older community who enjoyed his weekly bingo night.

“He will be long remembered by the Randwick Scout community.”

George who was a very active man for his age loved walking along the canal at Saul junction and has made donations to the canal trust.

He was a big supporter in the restoration of the canal and reconnecting it to the national canal network.

Tim and his family will remember George fondly and hopes the community will do the same.
