RECORD store day will be taking place worldwide this Saturday and Stroud’s very own Trading Post is getting involved.

Traditionally hundreds of new titles in vinyl are released exclusively to independent stores and Simon Vincent owner of the Trading Post is expecting people to turnout in their masses.

Simon said: “I’m expecting queues from 9 o’clock on Friday night, that’s what happened last year.

“It’s a bit of an unusual sight because we are normally quite quiet but on this one day we get hundreds through the door.

“I get some serious collectors coming along and they will spend huge sums of money and most people spend a few hundred.”

Trading will commence at 8am, there will be a wide range of musical acts to keep the crowds entertained and a free gig in the evening.

Keith Allen and Patrick Baladi will both be returning to do DJ sets and Reverend Schnider and The Band of Angles and Stroud based Chinese Burn will feature in the evening.

Simon, 49, who has owned the Trading Post for 16 years fulfilled a childhood dream when he took over the store in 2001.

He said: “When I was 14 I was a regular customer and I always wanted to buy the shop.

“However, I was told to go away and get a proper job which happened to be in banking but I came back to do what I have always wanted.”

Although he is expecting most of the customers on Saturday to be traditional vinyl collectors, he is hoping more people will be inspired to get involved.

“Normally it’s events like Record Store Day that introduce people into vinyl, said Simon.

“Hopefully this year will be no different.

“There has been an increase in vinyl sales for the last 17 years and people are slowly going back to the better quality sound vinyl provides.”

BBC Gloucestershire have already asked Simon if they can attend the event and he wants to encourage as many people as possible to come down and enjoy the entertainment.
