NEIL Carmichael returned as MP for Stroud with an increased majority at the last election on May 7, 2015.
It was a good win for the Conservatives and after the count Labour’s David Drew announced he was retiring.
The Tories won with a 4,866 majority.
This was the second time Carmichael had beaten Drew, and the fourth time the two had faced each other in a general election.
UKIP made considerable gains finishing third and getting their deposit back for the first time.
The Greens finished in fourth place, and unlike in 2010, they lost their deposit.
It was a terrible night for the Lib Dems, who came fifth after suffering a crushing blow which was mirrored across the country.
Two other candidates ran - Richard Wilson (independent) and David Michael (Free Public Transport) - gaining 248 and 100 votes respectfully.
