COLLEAGUES are searching for the family of much loved Tesco cashier Andy Hughes who has died at the age of 55.

Andy was a trucks, planes and trains enthusiast but also dedicated much of his time to charity work.

He was a big contributor to BBC Children in Need and one of his best known charity excursions involved bathing in baked beans.

However, Andy will be remembered most for his 27 years of dedicated service to the Stratford Road Tesco.

Jacqui Beard a friend and colleague said that Andy will be missed by everyone at Tesco and even the people he served.

She said: “Andy was like family and he was well known and well liked amongst the public.

“He was really chatty and always interacted with customers.”

Despite being a hugely popular person in Stroud, no one has seen or heard of Andy’s family.

He lived in the Uplands area of Stroud for many years but when he became ill he moved to a care home in Stratford and then to Gloucester before he died.

It is believed that Andy died of respiratory problems on Sunday, March 26.

His funeral will take place 10am on Friday, May 5 at Gloucester Crematorium.

A wake will follow the funeral held in the staff room of the Tesco Superstore, Stratford Road and anyone is welcome.

There will also be a collection bucket to raise money for a bench in Andy’s honour, which will be placed outside Tesco.

Anyone who can help or would like more information please email Jacqui Beard on 3200@uk.tesco.com.
