WARM tributes have recently poured in to well-known Chalford Parish councillor Ryan Davis, who sadly passed away aged 22. Searching through the archives we came across this lovely story from a decade ago.

A 12-year-old Arsenal supporter’s dream came true when he was the mascot during a charity match. Wheelchair bound Ryan Davis from Bussage, had no idea that his teacher at St Roses School, Jennifer Richards, had entered him for a competition on BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

Speaking in 2007, Jennifer said: “He’s always dressed in his Arsenal kit and when I heard about the competition I tried to phone straight away.

“It took me ages to get through and soon after I did they closed the lines down because they had been swamped.

“I gave them the school’s number to contact me if Ryan had won, not really expecting to hear anything.

“While I was in class, I was called to the phone and told that Ryan had won.”

The match featured an Arsenal legends team made up of former players and celebrities against a team of former Cheltenham players.

Ryan was invited into the dressing rooms after the match to meet the former players and celebrities.
