WHEN Rob Lloyd started keeping Stroud’s parks litter-free in 1992, John Major had just been elected Prime Minister, Bill Clinton had moved into the White House and Simply Red was top of the charts.

For 25 years, six days a week, come rain or shine, Rob has done his 8am shift clearing up litter in Park Gardens and Bank Gardens.

Now Rob, who is a member of Stroud Town Council’s Green Spaces team, has been honoured for his work.

“Rob’s dedication and commitment to keeping Stroud looking its best has been much commented on and much appreciated by town residents,” said Stroud town mayor Kevin Cranston.

“He has always gone that extra mile to make Stroud a nicer place to live and often, on a Monday morning he has had to deal with very unpleasant messes.”

Rob, who turns 50 later this year, says he still loves his job and looks forward to getting out in the mornings.

“It keeps me going and I love meeting new people. I just love my work,” he said.

In his 25 years he has found wallets and purses, which he has returned to police, clothing and the odd coin.

He says the amount of litter he collects has increased significantly over the years.

“It’s really bad after a weekend. I find cans, broken bottles and a lot of takeaway packaging.”

The town council presented Rob with a cake and gift certificates as tribute to his dedication.
