RESIDENTS of Slad Road in Stroud are furious at the lack of care motorists are showing when travelling along the street.

Margaret Richardson has only lived on Slad Road for 12 months but her car has already been damaged three times due to reckless driving and each time the driver has not stopped.

The most recent incident occurred on Sunday, June 4 when Margaret came to drive her car but realised her wing mirror had been broken into pieces.

She said: “This is the second time my wing mirror has been damaged and the third time my car has suffered damage.

“Last time my bumper was prized off, which suggests that a car had rubbed up against it.

“The biggest problem is that I have had to claim on my insurance, losing my no claims bonus and the incidents being recorded as my fault.

"I've spoken to five or six other people on my road and they are having similar problems."

Following the first incident in October, Margaret informed Gloucestershire Highways and her County Councillor at the time, Sarah Lunnon, about her concerns.

She suggested that a small section of Slad Road between the park and the Fountain Inn where the road narrows should be made a one way street.

However after a delayed response, Daniel Tiffany of Gloucestershire Highways said this was impossible as Slad Road is a B road and would mess up the traffic network.

Cllr Lunnon also took a while to respond but told Margaret that a meeting to discuss the issue had been set up in February and Margaret would be informed of the outcome.

However, Margaret is still waiting to hear what effect the meeting had and no action has currently been taken.
