Five talented sisters from Stroud are performing on stage together in another sell-out production by The Cotswold Playhouse.

The uplifting musical, The King and I, stars Naomi Spiers aged 17, Emily aged 15, Megan aged 13, and twins Rosie and Kezia, aged 10.

Naomi, who plays one of the King’s wives, and younger sister Emily, who plays one of the King’s children, have both performed previously with The Cotswold Players, and were involved in the January production of The Witches. However, for Megan, Rosie, and Kezia, who are also all playing the King’s children, it is their first time performing with the company, and for the twins, their first ever time on stage.

The popular musical is based on the novel by Margaret Landon’s Anna and the King of Siam, which was derived from the memoirs of Anna Leonowens, a governess to the children of King Mongkut of Siam in the 1860s. The musical features popular numbers such as ‘Getting to Know You’, and ‘Shall We Dance.’

Tracy Spiers, mother of the five young actresses, told the SNJ how her daughters’ involvement in the production has brought a new dynamic to her family.

“It’s a great topic around the dinner table, and it has definitely brought them closer together as they all feel involved in the same thing.

“Whether they pursue drama or not, this kind of experience is invaluable as it helps increase confidence.”

This was a unique experience for the Spiers family, as it is likely that it won’t happen again. In the autumn Naomi is due to leave home for university to study Drama and Educational Studies, leaving her younger sisters to continue starring in The Cotswold Playhouse’s productions.

The King and I is running a second week of performances from Wednesday, June 21 to Saturday, June 24.
