FROCESTER 1ST XI slumped to a disappointing 77 run defeat against Potterne at Pounds Close on Saturday.

Wimmy Perera and Dan Whincup captured four wickets apiece for the hosts but it was their poor performance with the bat that cost them the game.

Potterne won the toss and elected to bat first on a slightly green wicket.
Perera made the most of with the new ball, finding a plenty of life out of the wicket, capturing three scalps in his opening spell, reducing the visitors to 24-3.

Richie Cave, Tom Drake and Ross Martin all bowled tightly, but ex-Gloucestershire all-rounder, Ed Young, battled through the difficult times and received solid support from the middle order.

At 185-4, Potterne looked set for a score well in excess of 200, but Perera returned to take another wicket to finish with 4-29 and Whincup produced an excellent spell, including bowling Young for 95, at the death finishing with 4-27 as Potterne were restricted to 207-9.

However, Frocester suffered a disastrous start to their reply being reduced to 43-5.

Only Whincup, with 32 and Perera with 19 brought any respectability to the total as Frocester were bowled out for 130 in 36 overs.

Frocester now sit seventh in the West of England Premier League (WEPL), unfamiliar territory for the 2014 and 2015 league champions.
