A REMARKABLE bowling performance saw Stroud first team snatch victory from the jaws of defeat against Corse and Staunton (Staunton) at the SCG on Saturday.

Winning the toss and choosing bat, Captain Will Golding and overseas recruit Dom Thompson opened the batting and started in confident fashion until Golding was clean bowled for 11.

Veteran Paul Frape replaced him but was soon back in the pavilion, nicking a good delivery behind first ball.

Chris Job joined Thompson at the crease and immediately launched into the bowling, hitting his first four balls to the boundary.

His cameo was short lived as he shouldered arms to a straight delivery and was bowled.

Thompson, Chris Smith and Adam Gibbs followed in quick succession to leave Stroud in big trouble six wickets down.

However, Matt Smith and James Job started to repair the innings with Smith in particular being responsible for the majority of the runs.

Another twist saw both batsmen perish in quick fashion leaving Stroud 130 for 8 with only 30 overs bowled.

The tail didn’t last long and the hosts finished their innings on a seemingly below par 141 all out in only 35 overs.

Staunton were asked to bat for eight overs before the tea break and Stroud did their best to make it a tricky period for the visitors.

James Job and Golding claimed a wicket each to leave the Forest of Dean based club reeling at the interval.

After tea the Staunton captain Dannett took the attack to Stroud on his way to a quick fire 40 but his partner struggled at the other end scoring just seven runs in 20 overs before being dismissed by Chris Job.

Gavin Dean bowled in tandem with Job and took 4 wickets with a mixture of good bowling and indifferent stroke play, putting the home side in with a great chance of winning.

Golding and James Job returned to the attack to wrap up the tail, leaving Staunton all out for 125, capping a remarkable effort in the field from the hosts.

Stroud will travel to The Park this weekend, to resume an old rivalry with Cirencester. Stroud sit third in WEPL Gloucestershire with Cirencester in second.
