IT’S the summer solstice today (Wednesday) and it is very hard to think of much else apart from the sun at the moment with even my normally frigid north facing office turning into a warm place!

During this heat one of the best things to eat is fruit, of course, with the combination of liquid, fruit sugars and vitamins, providing the perfect sustenance to our melting bodies.

With this in mind we are naturally delighted that Court Farm, back last week with raspberries, gooseberries and strawberries, have announced suddenly that cherries are very early this year and ready for eating. At three punnets for a fiver for all their fruit plus Besley’s and Over Farm’s strawberries also available why not arrange a fruit party!

Unfortunately I put all three of the punnets of cherries I got last week into a fruit bowl and took them to a bring and share party where they were devoured before I got to have one!

One of our successes, Little Hollows Pasta, have found a way to make use of the copious quantities of unused egg whites they generate in the pasta making process by adding Ricciarelli biscuits to their range. In this weather most of us want to be outside and so we move the cooking outside and get a barbecue going. Some of our meat stalls offer marinated meats, from ribs to chicken, alongside ranges of burgers and bangers for the barbie but for those who wish to do their own flavouring Tubby Tom’s is on hand again this Saturday with their ever increasing range of sauces and rubs.

Hard though it is to think of a woodfired pizza oven as something attractive when all you want is shade and a cold drink (or bowl of fruit) Velo Bakery and wood-fired Pizza oven returns this Saturday.

Operating in their new location down Union Street beyond the organic veg stalls they serve lovely croissants and other pastries first thing and pizza for lunch.
