IN RESPONSE to your recent Aldi article and letter from Mr Bryan of Nailsworth supporting a new application for the supermarket to come into Stroud, I question the claims that it is ‘largely supported’ and that the SDC should give ‘the people what they want’.

As a resident of the town, I would like to point out that Stroud District Council has already made a decision on the matter and that another supermarket in Stroud will further increase existing substantial traffic congestion as those from outlying areas drive into and through our town.

The subsequent noise, pollution and frustration will not enhance the quality of anyone’s life as those who rush for things cheap will only leave a nasty taste in our mouths, and I know many who live in the town who do not want another supermarket in it.

Wouldn’t it be better for people to support their own communities instead of demanding that other towns supply their perceived needs.

On the other hand, Nailsworth only has one sizeable supermarket so surely there’s room for another.

Now there’s a thought.
