BRITISH skiing legend Eddie the Eagle is donating a pair of skis in support of Stroud charity The Door.

Michael 'Eddie' Edwards has donated a pair of his original jump skis, plus a DVD of the film about his life - both signed by him - for this year’s Small Charities Week eBay auction running nationally from June 22 to July 2.

Items are sold through eBay and all of the proceeds go to the charity they represent.

The top two items in the Small Charities Week auction will be matched up to £1,000.

The Door needs some willing bidders who can raise the value of Eddie's donation so that the gift will be matched in kind by PayPal's Giving Fund.

Anne Townsend, community fundraiser at the Door, says: “We are thrilled that Eddie has decided to support us in this way.

“His skis are just the perfect donation needed for the upcoming auction.

“The Door relies on the generosity of public and business donations to raise the £368,000 needed to keep it running each year.

“Eddie never accepted defeat in his efforts to reach the winter Olympics and our fundraising spirit is much the same!

“His kind donation will ensure that the doors of The Door remain open for all.”
