PUPILS at Park Junior School in Stonehouse were lucky enough to report on some exciting breaking news.

Teachers made up a story that a fictional ‘spiny-backed honnahleevian dragon’ was spotted in the school’s eco park on Friday - and the children were first on the scene.

As part of the investigation, each child was asked to write a report of the gripping events of the morning.

English co-ordinator Carol Johnson was hoping the exercise would get the children’s creative juices flowing.

“The exercise is all about the children using their imagination and writing their thoughts down before they talk about it,” said Carol.

“The children will be doing newspaper reports later in the year and this is good preparation.

It was good fun coming up with the exercise, we had Bryan Neal the school caretaker close off the eco park and then we pretended a specialist flew over from Ireland in the early hours of the morning who the children interviewed via video. They all had a good time.”
