A BUDGET fashion store in Stroud has closed its doors for the final time.

Store Twenty One which is located in Merrywalks shopping Centre did not open this morning.

Posters remain in the shop window saying ‘50 percent cent off absolutely everything,’ but it is now completely empty.

Last month the discount chain, formerly known as Quality Seconds, filed for insolvency with the prospect of losing 1,000 jobs in its 125 stores across the country.

It is believed the retailer spent the last few weeks scrambling around trying to raise fresh cash from its main lender, State Bank of India, ahead of a court-imposed deadline.

However, it is understood that the bank, which is owed around £14m, said it will not provide any further funding.

In July 2016, signs saying the store was closing down appeared in the Stroud branch’s window and many prices were slashed.

However, at the time management in the store refused to comment and remained open for more than a year.
