A BRAND new mobility scooter scheme will be launched in Stroud this month.

Shop Mobility Stroud will give senior citizens a chance to hire mobility scooters for very little cost and long enough to do their shopping.

It will run in conjunction with the Gloucestershire Minibus Scheme, with the buses bringing people to town and then offering them the chance to use the scooters.

The mastermind behind Shop Mobility Stroud Graham Stanley said: “Everyday activities can often be a struggle for those with mobility problems and this will give them the opportunity to get out and about.

“Since the mobility shop up near Iceland shutdown there is no way people who require help can get it.

“This scheme has already been implemented in Cheltenham and Gloucester, increasing the town's footfall and it is about time we had it in Stroud."

There will be two scooters, six wheelchairs and several walking frames available for rent at a reasonable price.

This is a non-profit scheme and the money for rental costs will not be going in anyone’s pocket.

“It will be like renting a book from the library,” said Graham.

Graham and his team will be present at Stroud Show on Saturday to hand out flyers, explain more about the scheme and answer any questions.
