A SERIAL shoplifter went on a spree of offending in Stroud last month, a court heard.

Alexander Powell, 24, of Applechurch Road, Stroud admitted a string of offences when he appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on Friday, July 7.

He went to Asda in Bruton Way, Gloucester on June 3, 13 and 14 and stole computer games and a computer console.

Powell also stole an Xbox One console from Tesco in Stroud on June 26 and £99 in cash from the Stonehouse Court Hotel between June 16 and 17.

He also assaulted David Mole in Stroud on June 26, PC Jeffreys-Jones on July 5 and PC Beachley on the same occasion.

Powell also assaulted Caroline Bennett on June 26 in Stroud.

He stole £41.90 of food and drink from the Co-op in Stroud on July 5.

Magistrates placed him on a community order until July 6, 2018, fined him £10 and ordered him to pay £600 compensation.
