THE COMMUNITY of the tiny village of Pitchcombe are teaming up to help save their church.
The population of just 220 are rallying together to raise funds to repair the church roof, which is currently endangering the 700 year old bell, one of the oldest in the country.
An extortionate £164,000 is required to complete the repairs but the villagers are refusing to give up.
If 50 per cent of money is raised then then various grants will become available to help the villagers reach their goal.
Currently a fantastic sum of £80,000 has been raised through fundraising events, private donations and the generous support of The Vernon Smith Trust and the Gloucester Historic Churches Trust.
However, £2,000 is still required to reach their 50 per cent goal of £82,000.
Planned events include a family Bingo night in the village hall on Friday, July 28, from 6.30pm, a gala concert featuring soprano Nick Kennedy on Thursday, August 17 from 7pm and a ceilidh is planned for Saturday, October 28 again in the village hall this time from 7.30pm.
