A MOTION supporting fair transitional state pension arrangements for 1950’s women was passed during a full Stroud District Council meeting last night.
Of the councillors present only five abstained from voting with every other councillor supporting the motion.
Maud Lomberg, of WASPI Gloucestershire and Cotswolds was extremely pleased with the result.
“We are very grateful to the majority of the district council who voted in favour of supporting the motion.
“It would have been nice to see every single person vote with us but you can’t have it all.
“Catherine Braun, Skeena Rathor and Chas Townley were brilliant in making sure this motion was debated and eventually passed, so we’d like to thank them as well.”
It is estimated that 4740 women in the District born on or after April 5, 1951, have been affected by increase in the State Pension Age and that these women have unfairly borne the burden of the increase due to lack of notification.
This is a national issue with hundreds of thousands of women being affected by the Pensions Acts of 1995 and 2011 which gave some women just two years notice of a six-year increase to their state pension age.
