LAST week police released CCTV footage in an attempt to identify a man suspected of being involved in fatally shooting a cat, but he has now been cleared of any involvement.
A cat was shot dead with an air gun on Wednesday, May 31 in the Devereux Crescent area of Ebley.
Eight-year-old lilac tabby Percy was shot dead in the attack, leaving his owner Melangell Penrhys and her 11-year-old son Morvan devastated.
Stroud police confirmed to the SNJ that the man in the CCTV footage, released by the police last week, was holding a pipe and not a gun.
A police spokesman said: "The man has been identified and he wasn't holding a gun but a piece of piping.
"He has been eliminated from the inquiry."
The police has also said that the family of the cat has been informed of the developments.
If you have any information that could help, call the police on 101, quoting incident number 199 of Wednesday, March 31 and ask for PC Gay.
