A 42-YEAR-OLD Stroud man who went on a shoplifting spree in the town has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Matthew Edrich of Russell Street, Stroud admitted a string of offences when he appeared before Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on July 11.

On June 8 at B&Q, Dudbridge Hill, Stroud he stole a Ryobi hammer drill worth £82, on March 10 at the same store he stole drills valued at £210, at Holland and Barrett on May 5 he stole three containers of protein powder valued at £164.

On July 9 he entered Lloyds Pharmacy in Rowcroft Retreat, Stroud with intent to steal and on the same day also entered the Poundland staff area in King Street with intent to steal.

Edrich stole four crates of lager valued at £36 from Tesco Express in Stratford Road, Stroud on July 6.

He also asked for six other offences to be taken into consideration.

He was given a 17-week jail sentence suspended for one year and ordered to pay a total of £242 compensation.
